Clinical mammography

Clinical mammography - or the "breast package" - is recommended in the following situations:

If you have felt a lump in your breast
If there is spontaneous secretion or bleeding from the nipple
If there are skin changes and/or retraction of the nipple
If you experience pain or soreness in the breast

Clinical mammography, consist of:
         3 x-rays of each breast
Ultrasound scanning of breast and armpits
Clinical examination of breast and armpits
         Tissue sample/needle biopsy if necessary
         Consultation with a specialist

How is the examination done?

The mammography examination is done with special x-ray apparatus that ensures optimum images with a minimum of x-rays.

When the examination is done, the breast is placed between two plates in order to ensure the best result. Afterwards, a radiologist will evaluate the x-rays and examine the breast and armpits.

We then do an ultrasound scanning of the breast and armpits. The scanner- head is moved over the breast and armpits.

The examination is pain-free.

Tissue samples

If a lump is found in the breast, it will be necessary in some cases to take a tissue sample by means of needle biopsy. Ciconia Aarhus Private Hospital also offers this type of examination.
