Mammography

Ciconia Aarhus Private Hospital offers mammography, which is an x-ray examination of the breast. With mammography, it is possible to detect cancer cells at a very early stage, which significantly increases the possibilities of effective treatment.

The examination is done either as a preventive breast-cancer examination (screening) or because the patient or her physician has felt "something" in the breast (clinical mammography). In the latter case, a medical examination of the breast, additional ultrasound scanning, and perhaps a  tissue sample/needle biopsy, will be necessary.

The examinations are performed with the latest scanning equipment and without any waiting time. They are done by a radiologist with special experience in mammography.

Is mammography dangerous?

Very low radiation is used in a mammography and constitutes no health risk.
Neither does ultrasound present any risk to health.  It is often used during pregnancy.
A biopsy can result in short-term pain, which can be treated if necessary.
